Introduction: I'm going a little out of order for this trip. I'll explain. This past May we took another family vacation to the mainland. Daniel was graduating college and we also wanted to visit our family on the East Coast. Also, our friend Mariko got to come with us! We began in Chicago, drove to Massachusetts, then up to Maine, then back to Massachusetts, then down to New York, and then back to Chicago. Road trips are the best kinds of trips. I decided to begin writing about this trip with our most scenic location: Rockport, Massachusetts. And since Sarah and Mariko both came equipped with a Canon 60D each, I will be blogging about this trip through the camera lens of three different tourists. See Mariko's tumblr account here, and Sarah's tumblr account here.
Rockport, Massachusetts
The ocean is something that people in Hawaii are pretty much obsessed with, but there is a dramatic difference between the shorelines of Hawaii and Massachusetts. We were used to tropical beaches with warm water and coconut trees, but the Atlantic Ocean was an altogether different experience for us. This small New England coastal town was probably the cutest place in Mass. It reminded me of an East Coast equivalent to our Haleiwa. Except it was more...nautical (for lack of a better word). The sailboats, lobster traps, lighthouses, and freezing Atlantic waters were picturesque novelties. We were there only for an afternoon, but it was good enough for us to explore the shops, indulge in some salt water taffy and go crazy with the cameras. These were our favorites.
