The Alps

Today I've been thinking a lot of Austria. I wanna go back. For obvious reasons.
Thats pretty much all I wanted to say.
(This is a very short preview of my Austria post)

Rockport, Massachusetts - May 2011

Introduction: I'm going a little out of order for this trip. I'll explain. This past May we took another family vacation to the mainland. Daniel was graduating college and we also wanted to visit our family on the East Coast. Also, our friend Mariko got to come with us! We began in Chicago, drove to Massachusetts, then up to Maine, then back to Massachusetts, then down to New York, and then back to Chicago. Road trips are the best kinds of trips. I decided to begin writing about this trip with our most scenic location: Rockport, Massachusetts. And since Sarah and Mariko both came equipped with a Canon 60D each, I will be blogging about this trip through the camera lens of three different tourists. See Mariko's tumblr account here, and Sarah's tumblr account here.

Rockport, Massachusetts

The ocean is something that people in Hawaii are pretty much obsessed with, but there is a dramatic difference between the shorelines of Hawaii and Massachusetts. We were used to tropical beaches with warm water and coconut trees, but the Atlantic Ocean was an altogether different experience for us. This small New England coastal town was probably the cutest place in Mass. It reminded me of an East Coast equivalent to our Haleiwa. Except it was more...nautical (for lack of a better word). The sailboats, lobster traps, lighthouses, and freezing Atlantic waters were picturesque novelties. We were there only for an afternoon, but it was good enough for us to explore the shops, indulge in some salt water taffy and go crazy with the cameras. These were our favorites.

Xavier Rudd

School has been keeping me busier than I would prefer. One good thing about keeping busy though, time flies. I'm already a month into the semester. Its a pretty reasonable excuse as to why I haven't written anything in a while. But this post will be short because I have to wake up early tomorrow.

Xavier Rudd. A musician I'm not too familiar with, but who's musical talent and songwriting makes me smile. I thought it would be appropriate to write about a particular song of his on this sort-of-travel-blog since it has a lot to do with the planet. I'm very fond of this planet, and I'm in love with this song. Its called "Messages" and I'm copy/pasting the lyrics :) I've been wanting to share this song for a while.

So now come sit down will you talk with me now?
Let me see through your eyes where there is so much life
We are biding our time for these myths to unwind
These changes we will confront
So please beware with every place that you head
And look to your soul for these things that you know
For the trees that we see cannot forever breathe
With the changes they will confront
You know some people they just wont understand
They just wont understand these things
Thank you for your message but I don't understand
No, I just wont understand these things
And this sacred land it has seen many hands, it has
Wealth and gold yet it is fragile and old
And all the greedy souls just don't care to know
Of the changes it will confront
So speak out loud of the things you are proud
And if you love this coast then keep it clean as it evolves
Cause the way that it shines may just dwindle with time
With the changes it will confront
You know some people they just wont understand
They just wont understand these things
Thank you for your message but I don't understand
No, I just wont understand these things
You know some people they just wont understand
They just wont understand these things
Thank you for your message but I don't understand
No, I just wont understand these things
So hold nice and close the ones that get to your soul
So that when it is cold you wont feel so alone
Cause the roads that you take may just crack and break
With the changes you will confront
With each gift that you share you may heal and repair
With each choice you make you may help someone's day
Well I know you are strong may your journey be long
And now I wish you the best of luck
Well I know you are strong may your journey be long
And now I wish you the best of luck
You know some people they just wont understand
They just wont understand these things
Thank you for your message but I don't understand
No, I just wont understand these things
